High speed Internet access has arrived on the Ridge! It can no longer be said that we live a
technological wasteland! Comcast has their new Xfinity service available in Cedar Ridge.
While the service offers TV, Phone (VOIP) and Interest, I had them install only their "Blast" internet service, as we love our Directv and AT&T phone service.
The service is 25 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up and this is not their fastest service. The fastest is 105 Mbps down. There are many options on their website (www.comcast.com), but it appears the best deals,
for now, are available from one of the groups selling the service at various shopping centers in the area.
AT&T still doesn't have DSL available in the area, and the other services such as Wildblue, Hughes Net satellite and MotherLode Wireless don't compete
with Comcast in either speed or cost. Of course Dial-Up service is still available from various providers at very little or no cost.
The jury is still out as to the operational capability of the Comcast Network during long power outages, we'll have to wait and see.
They claim they have battery and generator backup.
